Competition Time
Speak Easy @ Martlesham held their first competition on 10th March 2005. It was a fantastic night that saw over 18 people walk through the door and we welcomed Neil Moss as our guest for the evening.
The evening commenced with the International Speech Contest. Three members entered the contest and gave us fantastic inspirational speeches ranging from judging people to dealing with monetary issues to becoming a success! Third place was taken by Eleanor Ramsey with her speech entitled 'Dear Judges'; Second place was awarded to Jeff Short for his speech entitled 'Money, Money, Money'; and First place going to Jeff Bartrop for his speech entitled 'Sowing the Seeds of Success'. Well done to all of you for participating!
Following our break the Evaluation Contest kicked off with 4 contestants taking part. The contestants were: Phil Zoio, Sue Coppens-Browne, Eleanor Ramsey, Fiona Powell. Our test speech was given by Howard Smith who gave an excellent rendition of 'Snow What' playing on the recent snow we had encountered in the area and how it affects people throughout three stages of our life - childhood, middle age, retirement. Great interpretation of the stages going from happy go lucky, to tired and bored, to old decrepit and all seized up! Well done Howard on the speech. Our winners in the evaluation went to Second place Fiona Powell; First place Sue Coppens-Browne.
Well done to all our participants for the evening - you all did a spectacular job. Thank you to our chief judge, Mike Watts, and to all his judges, counters, timers for the evening. Especially thanks to everyone for coming along and supporting the evening.
Next event will be the Area 1 International Speech and Evaluation Contest held on 13th March 2005 at the Martlesham Community Hall. See Special Events for more information.
