Guests Galore

Dear all supporters!

I thought you would be pleased to hear how Speak Easy @ Martlesham is doing following its 2nd demonstration evening. We are flying so high because last night we were overwhelmed by the number of people who walked through the door! Visitor after visitor and Toastmaster after Toastmaster kept coming through the door which was fantastic! Our greeter struggled to keep up with getting them signed in and sorting out their name badges - but she did it! The total number of people in the room equalled 43!!! Out of that our quests numbered 22! Obviously our marketing has paid off and all the blisters have been worth it!

The night followed the same flavour as the first demonstration night in that we were treated to a fantastic topics session (impromptu speaking) by Ian Crane from Ipswich Electrifiers who focussed around the theme of 'Firsts' - such as your first house move, your first award receieved and even your first memory. All our volunteers came up willingly to give it a terrific go. Well done to all those newcomers who experienced that first buzz of being in front of an audience!

Following the break we were treated to a speech on 'Flirt' by Lyndon Samuel who truly believed in this being a fantastic way for people to gain 'rapport' with others. Following in true Toastmasters style, Kevin Bradley gave us a demonstration speech focussing on the 'Toastmaster'. What exactly do you need in order to be a Toastmaster - we soon realised that we all had the required ingredients, we just needed to recognise them, feel the fear and take the jump!

Our evaluators were all experienced toastmasters from Ipswich Electrifiers and they all earned their weight in gold by giving such outstanding encouraging evaluations. Everyone walked away realising that immediate feedback is so vital to improving their speaking skills. Thanks very much to Liz Louch, Mike Watts and Jackie Stoneman.

The evening ended with a Q&A session which did carry on longer than expected, but everyone was so interested in finding out the details that we allowed it to over run. This proved successful because we were able to encourage 5 more people to join Speak Easy @ Martlesham as their first step to improving their communication and leadership skills.

Again, many thanks to everyone at Ipswich Electrifiers and Camoludunum Speakers for helping make this meeting a true success. See you all on 18th November!
