Hungry Whatever the Weather

What a miserable drizzly evening it was, weather-wise But not for those of us who ventured out to take part in Speak Easy's meeting!

Our Toastmaster for the evening was supposed to be Francis Cooper but unfortunately he was called away on business and therefore Teresa Dukes stepped in to fill the gap! And how appropriate was her introduction for the evening being based around your favourite or least favourite weather - you see Teresa was a bit under the weather herself!

Gerry Goodwin introduced the word 'SPONTANEOUS' for his first attempt as Wordmaster. As a good Toastmaster Gerry took the initiative and checked out the website to find out more information on exactly what it means to be wordmaster. A job well done! A lesson everyone can learn from when they take on a new role. It was a successful word and Gerry even managed to pick up some interesting phrases from our speakers - all appearing to be food based!

Our topics session was run by Steve Bell and he treated us with a challenge of favourites! Topics ranged from your favourite Movie to your favourite evening out. Our winner for the evening by a landslide was Jeff Short with his favourite food being Duck but somehow he managed to get KFC in there as well. Hmmmm.

Our speakers for the evening were Dinesh Bhuyan and Andy Pitts who gave us their Ice Breaker speeches preceeded by Mike Watts who treated us with an Advanced Manual speech on Evaluating! Two fantastic Icebreakers giving us the opportunity to learn more about Andy and Dinesh. We can see the path each of these guys will be going down in the future! Mike's evaluation speech was very timely and very informative. Being given prior to the Evaluation Contest in March definitely gave our members something to think about.

Evaluating - An excellent evaluation session tonight. Must have had something to do with Mike's speech! Everyone was given a very positive evaluation with constructive improvement points to take away. Well done to Jon Rowe, Fiona Powell and Jeff Short.

Our General Evaluator tonight was Phil Zoio and this was the first opportunity for Phil to carry out this role. What an excellent job he did. I always find it nice to hear what a new speaker has to say about the way the meeting is run. Phil really hit on some good areas for us to look at - ranging from our SAA being more forceful with his calling the troops to order to offering the Toastmaster tips on how to be more direct with her links to each new area. Thanks Phil for a great evaluation!!!

Next meeting is 10th February 2005. Get those Speeches ready and start thinking about the Speech and Evaluation contest on 10th March
