Could I ask that you pass my thanks and gratitude back to the club, as I have noticed a large improvement in my public speaking abililties. That may be because I’m getting older but I am sure you have all had a helping hand in it 2! My only complaint would be I am now critiquing the lectures and have realized just how bad most public speakers are! I’d be a millionaire already if I got £1 for ever ‘umm’ I counted this week!

I didn't realise that I could speak, tell stories, etc. until I joined Toastmasters. I have developed confidence and now presentations, training, workshops, public meetings excite me - it is definitely as good as a drug!! I have to sometimes play down my confidence as I know it can terrify some people. The real practical bonuses are developing the skills of preparation, good time-keeping and listening closely to others. All in all Toastmasters is fun, I have learnt a lot and can assist another person to grow in confidence - not bad for £72 p.a.

After receiving my CTM award and competing in the humorous speech contest, I felt very confident and put myself forward to be the after dinner speaker at the company Christmas function last year (over 200 people in attendance). This was the most nerve wracking experience of my life to date, but I could only have achieved this with the confidence gained from Toastmasters.

Acted as master of ceremonies for Joyce's dance group dinner - I'd never have done that if not for toasties.
I've gained better skills for:
- technical presentations
- non-work presentations [how to groom at Horse driving trials http://www.mikewatts.com ]
- managing meetings
- giving feedback

I was always a reluctant speaker, which was becoming detrimental to my career, now I speak whenever possible and with confidence.

Before I joined Ipswich Electrifiers I had great difficulty speaking in public regardless of the size of group. I have noticed that people often link someone's ability to how well they speak, which may not be the case, but if you are a good speaker and perform your function well you are in a very strong position. After one particularly bad presenting experience I knew I had to get help and by pure luck I stumbled upon the Ipswich Electrifiers Speakers Club and I've never looked back. It has had a major impact on my work and personal life, it is the most cost effective form of training I've seen and above all it is great fun.

The most poignant time I called on my TM skills was at my mother's funeral.
Thank goodness for all that training that kicked in. I felt as though it was not me who was speaking. My lips, hands, thoughts and posture felt as though they were being controlled by a hidden hand.
I remembered to pause to hide that awful gap and to retain split-second composure at a crucial moment. I practised and practised. I gave them sincerity and I concentrated.
All in all, I felt as though I had done better than was expected of me, given the emotion that flowed.

I joined Toastmasters in order to be able to speak confidently and effectively in front of my peers. I always cowered in the corner like a little mouse not wanting to express my opinion because it was only me, why would managers want to hear what I thought? Now, I’m NEVER afraid to speak up and people not only listen to me but respect what I say. After gaining the confidence and the leadership skills from Toastmasters instead of feeling like a mouse I now feel like an EAGLE and have soared into a new venture of starting a new club in the area called Speak Easy @ Martlesham. Five years ago I could hardly speak, today you can hardly shut me up!
