Three Little Words

Three Little Words

A reasonable turn out for the last Speak Easy meeting of 2005 considering it was the last late night shopping before Christmas and the festive parties were in full swing.

Debs Lawrence was the Toastmaster for the evening and ensured everyone was fully involved even our guest for the evening, Dave Nightingale.

Andy Pitts provided the word ‘monopolise’ as part of his Word Master role.

Jeff Short inventively hosted the Topics session. I’ve seen a wide variety of methods to run the topics session over the years but Jeff showed us that there is always something new to see during a Toastmaster Meeting.
Jeff provided each speaker with three unconnected words and asked them to include them in their two minute ad-hoc speech. The joint winners were Fiona Powell and Dave Nightingale. Jeff presented them with half of the certificate each.

Mince Pies and Chocolates were served at the break. There are some chocolates left so come along on the 12th Jan to help finish them …

Prepared speeches from Margaret Stanway and myself followed the break. With the third speaker, Jon Rowe, absent due to car trouble, Jeff Short dusted off a speech from 5 years ago to fill the gap.
Margaret has made fantastic progress this year and it’s difficult to believe that she’s only on her third speech. A question on the FAQ page asks ‘How soon will I be an expert?’ … in Margaret’s case, not long !!!

I provided and extract from a lecture about Process Engineering. Using a number of boxes from McDonalds and some potatoes, I attempted to explain my job whilst giving close consideration to the type of audience. A comment ‘very interesting’ as I sat down led me to believe I reached my objective.

Jeff Short entertained us with a speech about giving his beloved moggy a tablet. Those with cats will know the trouble with this exercise. The audience was in stitches and if you believe the story so was Jeff as the cat took revenge !!!

2005 has been an amazing year for Speak Easy @ Martlesham. What will 2006 hold in store ? We hope to see all member back with us in the New Year and many new members join us following the Open Evening on the 26th January.

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Successful 2006
