Wordmaster Report - 10th February 2005
Ian Read

Special Word - Pontificate

Eleanor Ramsey noted spontaneity was a good antidote to pontification when speaking.
Jeff Short subverted Toastmaster's ideals, suggesting he did attend to pontificate - as he couldn't get away with it at home!
Jeff Bartrop came up with a new definition for 'pontificate' - a certificate earned at Pontins.
Jeff Short whilst alluding to the 'Pope being unwell', missed an opportunity for a pontificate pun.
Young-Mi gave her advice on French house purchases 'without pontificating'.

Nice Phrases used throughout the evening

Jeff Short told us how 'the wheel fell off', during one of his many driving tests - both actuallly and metaphorically, causing yet another failure.
Margaret Stanway described the shock of 'an extra gear I didn't know what to do with', when trading up from the Ford Prefect she learnt to drive in.
Teresa Dukes told us 'I had a dream', an expression we may have heard before somewhere.
Philippe Josseron described a dangerous technique called 'French Driving in England'.
Howard Smith told us 'they're weird up there' (was he talking about Adastral Park?).
Sam Parnell admitted she 'hadn't phoned John Peel before he died' (presumably in common with a number of others ...).
